Purpose: This 36 month project will seek to address systemic barriers women face with regards to exiting homelessness in Winnipeg. The organization will develop a gender-based housing strategy that will be implemented as part of Winnipeg’s existing 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. It will also establish referral protocols between the shelter system, correction facilities and other housing options in Winnipeg to support women with complex needs who are transitioning between these institutions. Results will also be disseminated amongst broader stakeholders in order to strengthen the coordinated response to a gender-based housing approach.
