Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Women Unlimited Association for Gender Equity in Trades & Technology
Location: Hubbards, Nova Scotia
Date: 2017-03-06
Value: $362,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 36-month project will seek to increase the representation of certified women apprentices in skilled trades in the province of Nova Scotia. An advisory committee composed of women apprentices and key partners will develop and implement a provincial Gender Equity Plan to build an apprenticeship system that is more inclusive and supportive of women obtaining apprenticeship certification. In parallel, the organization will establish a Women in Trades Network to connect women apprentices in the trades, help inform policies and practices in the apprenticeship system, and advance gender equality in the sector. Approaches and results will be shared with relevant stakeholders such as industries, unions and educational institutions to further address the underrepresentation of women in the skilled trades while making meaningful progress toward women’s economic prosperity by addressing systemic barriers that women experience in trade certification.
