Purpose: This 36-month project will improve first responder services and referral practices for victims of domestic violence in Calgary. In collaboration with project partners, a needs assessment will be completed to look at gaps, strategies, resources, and existing service response protocols among first responders to domestic violence. Strategies will be identified and implemented to effectively respond to victims needs by adapting and leveraging existing community resources. The project will work specifically with health-care professionals to address low rates of screening for patients experiencing domestic violence. A plan to increase screening rates will be developed and implemented throughout Calgary.
