Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Federation of Canadian Municipalities
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Date: 2012-03-01
Value: $99,627.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 24 month project will strengthen the ability of women to run for elected positions in Canadian municipalities across the country, with a particular focus on rural and remote areas. The project will train women on a wide variety of topics including securing nominations, campaign financing and ethics, policy making, public speaking, media relations, and gender issues. The project also includes a “protégée” program whereby female politicians mentor participants. The project will seek to engage municipal councils and encourage them to implement a strategy to recruit women to municipal government. SUPPLEMENT: This supplement will support and strengthen the abilities of women in the Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia to run for municipal positions. This funding will also allow FCM to conduct a more comprehensive evaluation of training modules and the mentorship component of the project. Using the results of the evaluation, FCM will develop an online guide documenting the lessons learned during the course of this project. The guide will be shared with other organizations and women who are considering running for leadership positions.
