Purpose: The 36 month project will work to improve access to legal aid for low-income single mothers, Aboriginal, immigrant and other vulnerable women in British Columbia. It will implement a community-based model of legal services delivery; work with lawyers, community based and women serving organizations to augment their capacity to provide legal supports to vulnerable women, particularly those involved in family law matters and develop and deliver a series of family law workshops. The organization will also implement a strategy to provide community organizations with the information and organizational skills necessary to bring in-house counsel on staff to provide family law legal representation to their clients. The project will include a comprehensive evaluation that will be implemented to monitor the direct impact of their innovative approach to assist women seeking legal advice and counsel.
