Purpose: The Girls Leadership Project will offer a variety of leadership opportunities for girls 12-18 years old that are girl-led, strength-based and girl-focused. A Girl's Council will guide the work of the GLP with the support of staff and volunteer mentors. It will be a youth engagement program that will be critical in guiding the development of planning, evaluation and implementation of activities for the GLP by identifying current interests and needs of girls in the community. The Girl's Council will consist of girls from diverse communities who will advocate for social equity for girls and women and will advance the initiatives of the GLP. The project will develop the skills and motivation of girls to change the system, to advocate for themselves and others, and to develop a bigger voice. There will be opportunities for community action to give girls visibility, a sense of their own power and let the community see what girls have to offer, strong girls make strong women.
