Recipient Name: The Governing Council of the Salvation Army in Canada
Location: Kelowna, British Columbia
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $274,897.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 36-month project will address the obstacles that prevent single mothers from participating in activities that would improve their families’ economic and social conditions as well their own participation in democratic life. The project’s goal is to contribute to increasing economic and family capacities (with a focus on financial literacy) and social connections of low-income female lone parent families who live in Kelowna. Participants will increase their knowledge and skills in economic and family capacity building by workshops in the areas that they want to improve, such as financial literacy, home management, parenting enhancement, education and vocation opportunities, and connection to community resources. A network of mentoring support will be built, where participants will have mentors to assist with practical skills coaching, self-improvement support, family life enrichment, emotional support and connections to better social educational and economic opportunities.
