Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Supporting Women's Alternatives Network (SWAN Vancouver)
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $69,860.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: The project will address immigrant and visible minority sex workers’ limited access to immigrant, legal and health services information by assisting them to gain access to these services. The project’s main focus will be on increasing women’s awareness of their legal rights and providing them with the tools to access relevant legal resources. The Network will serve to bridge the gaps between women and existing community services. It will assist women by facilitating an understanding and sensitivity among service providers and community members to their needs. The organization will collaborate with service providers to develop culturally appropriate and empowering strategies for meeting the needs of sex workers from immigrant and visible minority communities as well as potential or actual victims of trafficking. SWAN Vancouver will also develop and distribute culturally appropriate and work-specific health, safety and legal resources for these women. In addition, the organization will conduct ongoing needs assessments and gather empirical data on the impact of the 2010 Olympics on its target population.
