Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $159,983.00

Purpose: In partnership with local health and safety stakeholders, this 24-month project will directly affect 160 girls age 13 to 17 along with 40 young women in 8 Aboriginal communities in the following remote regions: Côte-Nord, Abitibi and Mauricie. The activities will include 8 awareness-building workshops, 8 training/creation sessions, and 8 intervention and follow-up workshops to target actions that the participants could undertake with local stakeholders in the future. Each awareness-building workshop will target 20 girls and consist of a presentation and discussion on the topic, and will also include a session for writing personal thoughts. This group logbook will serve as a starting point for 8 short films that will be done by 40 young Aboriginal women on the topic of violence during creation sessions. These films will become awareness-raising tools geared to the local cultural reality. Among the expected results, one quarter of the participants will get involved in a local support network or support group.
