Purpose: CFS is piloting a three year project to develop a pool of trained volunteers to act as mentors for women experiencing violence. Mentors will be matched with CFS clients to offer supportive accompaniment and information to navigate the court system, effectively interact with lawyers, negotiate Legal Aid and Ontario Works, and access housing and other social service agencies. Mentors will have access to a group of 10 volunteer professional women who will act as personal and career resources. The project will also deliver training/educational activities to parish priests, Parish Councils and parishioners. Through the pilot, 30 mentors will be trained to deliver services to 100 women, and more than 30,000 people will be reached through parish outreach and education.
