Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Action Ontarienne contre la violence faite aux femmes
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $539,850.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This project is part of a province-wide initiative that brings together seven potential federal and provincial partners. It involves setting up a francophone legal clinic based on the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic model. Status of Women Canada’s (SWC) contribution would make it possible to develop and test a model for legal information services intended for French-speaking women who are victims of violence in order to give them the tools they need to improve their safety. This part of the project has four components: 1) to adapt and develop tools and educational materials with legal information in French with the aim of improving the quality of services to women experiencing violence; 2) to test those tools; 3) to provide training on the issues of violence to advocacy workers because there are no such tools in French; 4) to offer a set of about 10 workshops to francophone women across the province. Women experiencing violence will be able to go to 10 select service points (with their safety ensured) where they will receive the services to which they are entitled.
Comments: Multi-year project of 36 months
