Purpose: This pilot project aims to improve urban, off-reserve Aboriginal women's economic, social and cultural standing in their families and community by addressing the issue of family violence and the negative impact it has on women and children. Children from the ages of birth to 16 years and their primary caregivers will engage in interactive parenting sessions and workshops to facilitate increased trust, respect and attachment. The families will be provided with cultural teachings related to healthy relationships, respect and traditional gender roles. Educators and community members will participate in workshops related to domestic violence, learn the effects of violence and the social/emotional costs to the community and culture of Aboriginal people.
