Location: Kamloops, British Columbia
Date: 2009-02-09
Value: $50,970.00

Purpose: This pilot project consists of leadership training for women who are marginalized because they are living on low incomes and/or have been street involved, are leaving jail, and/or have cognitive or behavioural challenges that make it difficult for them to participate in the larger community. The women will meet weekly over the life of the project to work on publishing a newsletter, art projects and organizing speaking engagements related to violence against women. The subject areas the women will work on are addictions and recovery; violence in relationships and healthy relationships; trauma; sexuality and nutrition. Through these activities the women will develop leadership skills and the community will become more educated on issues facing the women.
