Location: Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
Date: 2009-01-13
Value: $188,100.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 36 month project will support 220 women, including seniors, Aboriginal, single mothers and low income women, in need of high-level communication and problem-solving skills. By increasing economically disavantaged women’s knowledge and skills to better communicate, women will be able to enter a problem-solving process that can lead to creative solutions in family, community or work related situations. This project will support the development of significant leadership skills for women who will be mentored to pass those skills on to other women in vulnerable populations to increase their participation within their communities. Barriers to community participation such as shame in asking for help from family, friends or neighbours and lack of effective communication skills will be overcome by this comprehensive training on problem solving and conflict resolution. This training, adapted and made accessible to marginalized women, will enable them to more fully participate in social, democratic and economic life.
Comments: Multi-year project of 36 months.
