Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Fédération des communautés culturelles de l’Estrie
Location: Sherbrooke, Quebec
Date: 2009-01-13
Value: $71,792.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This project responds to a need in the Eastern Townships, to contribute to the development of knowledge about violence in ethno-cultural communities. The project pursues two specific objectives: first, to make local organizations and women—mainly immigrant women—aware of the issue of violence in Quebec. Second, to train and equip these women to deal with the different forms of violence, their direct and indirect impacts, and to recognize the warning signs so they can better react and, if necessary, gain access to local resources. Four activities will be pursued: the development of a violence prevention manual , the organization of six information workshops and a symposium, and the preparation and organization of an awareness campaign consisting of 48 presentations throughout the Eastern Townships. In addition, 20 immigrant women from various communities will make up the Stop à la violence group. Beyond this core activity, which will be responsible for designing the project tools, 650 women will be directly impacted by the project, including 422 immigrant women and 128 women from the host community, as well as 100 stakeholders from the contacted organizations.
