Purpose: This project will engage up to 30 Aboriginal and visible minority girls and women who have been in conflict with the law, or who are at risk of criminalization and who self-harm. The girls and women will participate in studio workshops and training sessions twice weekly in order to develop skills in film and video production as well as more effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills. These skills will: give them the tools they needs to better communicate and overcome the barriers they are encountering; allow them to participate more effectively in the community through the exhibition of their artistic works and through acting as trainers and facilitators for community-level education programs; and, provide them with pre-employment skills that they will be able to use in the future. Supplement: Additional funds will allow the group to provide increased personal supports to the participants in order to facilitate their continuing participation in the project and to upgrade and replace equipment.
Comments: Multi-year project of 2 years (2008-2009).
