Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Multicultural Inter Agency Group of Peel
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Date: 2008-03-03
Value: $103,660.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This eleven month project will reach out to 100 women experiencing and/or at risk of domestic violence in the Hispanic, Arab, Somali and Sudanese, other African and Caribbean communities in the Peel area. A culturally adapted workshop model will be developed and tailored to meet the needs of the four diverse communities in understanding the cycle of violence and of various types of abuse (physical, emotional, financial, and verbal). Translation services will be offered and women will be able to discuss these sensitive issues in their first languages within a culturally relevant context. There will be a regional conference following the workshops where women from these diverse communities will come together to discuss their experiences as immigrants, survivors of domestic violence and women. Using participant input, the organization will create a booklet outlining definitions of violence, and a list of resources, and safety tips.
