Purpose: The purpose of this project is to improve the physical and mental health of more than 200 marginalized women and their families in Toronto’s Parkdale nieghbourhood, by getting them involved in setting up organic vegetable gardens. The participants will learn how to grow organic vegetables, develop leadership skills and communication skills with other marginalized women. Over an 18-month period, 160 organic gardening classes will be given to the 200 female participants, 15 women will be trained for leadership positions and to help the other project participants. Four hundred women and men from the community will be invited to two community events organized by the participants to celebrate the harvests from these gardens.
