Purpose: This innovative project will target marginalized immigrant Muslim and South Asia communities residing in the neighbourhoods of Thorncliffe, Flemingdon Park, and Victoria Village. It will use a multi-faceted model, The Muslim Wheel of Domestic Violence which includes women, men and professionals from different fields. Major activities include: recruitment and training volunteers, outreach, workshops, focus groups, informational sessions, translation of resource materials in four different languages and sensitize the various community media. These activities are designed to break the silence and raise awareness in the Muslim community about the effects of domestic violence against women; families and communities. The participants will increase their knowledge of the cycle of family violence and will identify barriers and gaps that prevent women from accessing services while increasing the cultural competencies of service providers.
