Recipient Name: Centre de ressources de la troisième avenue
Location: Montreal, Quebec
Date: 2008-03-03
Value: $50,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This pilot project, entitled Tracer la voie de la participation active des jeunes filles à la collectivités and presented by the Centre de ressources de la troisième avenue, aims to reduce the different forms of discrimination against immigrant and visible minority girls. Specifically, it will give 50 of them the opportunity to: 1) affirm their identity; 2) validate their social roles with other young victims of discrimination, and 3) increase their influence in the community and at school when dealing with situations that threaten their identity. The activities will include: the facilitation of an educational program presented by the girls to their peers; leadership training in school and elsewhere in the community; and, opportunities to speak out in public and to work with the Parents en action pour l’éducation movement. Finally, these girls will transmit their new knowledge to other young people in the poorer schools around the Montreal area.
