Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Réseau québécois pour la santé des femmes
Location: Montreal, Quebec
Date: 2008-03-03
Value: $169,132.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: The project entitled Responsabilisation de l’industrie de la mode en regard des impacts de ses pratiques publicitaires aims to secure the fashion industry’s commitment to following certain rules of ethics in its marketing practices. According to the Réseau québécois d’action pour la santé des femmes (RQASF), this industry operates without taking note of or responsibility for its influence and the sometimes devastating impact it can have. The RQASF intends to set up a working group comprising key players in the industry in order to design an awareness-raising campaign adapted to the industry, and develop an ethical framework for the worlds of fashion and advertising. At the same time, the RQASF will respond to requests from different groups by preparing and promoting an intervention tool that can be used by people working with women and girls, which will address the issue of a responsible attitude toward fashion. The RQASF will also pursue its work of raising public awareness by producing new editions of two major documents on fashion and advertising, which will be distributed to career women (in the business, cultural, media and other sectors) as a priority, because they are the ones in the public eye, who are subjected to the most pressure and who help promote standards of beauty.
Comments: Multi-year project of 3 years (2008-2010).
