Purpose: This 18-month project will train and support six peer mentors (former sex workers or women currently trying to exit sex work) working within the Outreach and Research in Community Health Initiatives and Development (ORCHID) project. The ORCHID project provides HIV/STI outreach to 400 Asian female sex trade workers working in indoor venues. This Peer Support Project will facilitate their participation in the larger project, as well as assist them to address personal barriers to their entry into mainstream society. The peer mentors will identify the support they require to become empowered through developing personal and leadership skills, as well to gain pre-employment skills that will help them achieve economic security.
