Recipient Name: CANADIAN WOMEN COMMUNITY ECONONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
Location: Thunder Bay, Ontario
Date: 2007-03-30
Value: $302,204.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This women-centred CEDs project will increase the number of employment opportunities available for low-income and marginalized women in communities across Canada and their capacity to plan and manage the growth of their enterprises. Leaders from grassroots women-led CED organizations will identify and implement strategies to secure the viability of their enterprises and improve their financial results. They will also increase their capacity to implement innovative approaches in the day-to-day management of their enterprises (e.g. service/product development, market development, knowledge leverage, promotion of their products and services, etc.). The project will enhance women-centred CEDs' ability to establish economic partnerships related to quality improvement, cost management, implementation of sound forecasting and financial management systems, services and productivity monitoring, effective internal and external communications, and comprehensive evaluation. These women's contribution will be used by the Council to develop intervention models that address the reality of women-centred community enterprises and how grassroots women overcome sustainability and viability challenges. Lessons learned and best practices will be shared throughout Canada, training programs will be developed and training, support and guidance for women in women-centred CED offered. This will help women-centred CED increase their market share, their capacity to innovate and to create additional employment for grassroots women in communities across Canada.
