The 62nd Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women
Preparations are underway both in Canada and abroad for the 62nd session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) which will take place in New York from March 12 to March 23, 2018.
The deadline to submit nominations of candidates to serve as members of the official Canadian delegation at the 62nd session was January 12, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. EST.
Status of Women Canada’s Commitment
Status of Women Canada has a long-standing commitment to increasing the participation of women’s and other NGOs in the international policy process, as well as assisting groups in building on their knowledge and understanding of the structures and operational processes of the United Nations and other multilateral organizations. Since the Fourth World Conference of Women in 1995, NGO representatives have been invited to serve on Canadian delegations to many international meetings, including the UNCSW and numerous other Ministerial meetings on women.
About the 62nd Session
The priority theme of the UNCSW in 2018 is Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls. The Commission will also evaluate progress in the implementation of the agreed conclusions from its 47th session on the Participation in and access of women to the media, and information and communications technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women.
