Purpose: The project will focus on increasing opportunities in apprenticeship programs in skilled trades for Aboriginal, rural and immigrant women living in northern and rural/remote areas. The organization will collaborate with partners and employers to develop and implement strategies aimed at addressing the needs and barriers identified by women in accessing apprenticeship positions. Through the project, an on-line network will be developed to act as a central web portal to support effective and sustainable change within the industry. The network will review employers’ hiring practices and develop practical tools and best practices for recruiting and retaining women apprentices in the skilled trades and create a pool of employers wishing to sponsor women apprentices across Canada.
