Purpose: This 24-month project will address the under-representation in civic life of young Francophone women aged 18 to 24 who are immigrants, second generation immigrants or members of visible minority groups. An advisory committee made up of youth and partners including representatives of the Toronto Youth Cabinet, school boards and community organizations will be formed. Two Toronto city councillors as well as a member of Toronto’s Centre-South Catholic District School Board are participating in the project. The officials will interact with the participants as mentors and will help to identify barriers and potential strategies that would increase the civic participation of young women at various levels.
