Purpose: This 36 month project will work to address the issues of sexual assault and family violence in the rural communities of Southeast Alberta, including Bassano, Bow Island, Brooks, Medicine Hat, and Oyen. The project’s partners, including service providers, professionals, local government officials, and law enforcement officials, will be trained on gender-based violence to create a common understanding and language amongst stakeholders to support the development of a community plan. Key issues with service delivery, including accessibility, programs, and follow-up practices will be examined. This process will aim to identify and develop strategies to remove barriers for women accessing services. Collaborative agreements will be developed and ratified in at least three communities in the region to address issues of sexual assault and family violence.
